A local man, born and bred in Haydock, St Helens.
Educated at English Martyrs School, Haydock, St Thomas Linacre High School, Wigan, and started Priests' Training in 1958 at St Joseph's Seminary, Upholland, Lancs.
Ordained to the priesthood in June 1965.
Served initially as a Curate at St Clare's, Liverpool; moving in 1972 to Sacred Heart, Liverpool; 1977, Sacred Heart, Chorley; 1980, St Aloysius, Huyton; and in 1985 to All Saints, Golborne as Parish Priest - serving also as Hospital Chaplain and School Chaplain whilst at these parishes.
Appointed Parish Priest at Birchley St Mary's Oct 1995.
Fr Bernard is Chairman of the Board of Governors at St Mary's Primary School, and is also on the Board of Governors at St Peter's High School, Orrell.
Interested in most sports (other than boxing and wrestling) he is a keen golfer - playing off 13 at Southport & Ainsdale, and active member of a gym. He attempts The Times crossword every day - and completes it on average three times per week.
