Ordained to the priesthood in 1945.
Appointed Parish Priest at Birchley January 1973, a position he held until his Retirement in Oct 1995.
Father Ashton still lives in the parish, at Nugent House Residential High School where he is Chaplain and a member of the Nugent Care Society Governing Body.
He loves Birchley, loved the people and loved the parish - and feels very lucky to have been able to retire here. He also respected the history of Birchley and its churches chapels and was delighted to have been involved in the restoration of the Bell and Tower on St Mary's church.
