A Parish Church for a Pilgrim People
A National Appeal has been launched to fund the building of a new church at Walsingham, the Church of the Annunciation - a National Church for the National Shrine.
Your generous support is requested. Explanatory Leaflets about the project and Contribution Envelopes are at the back of the church - they can be put in the Offertory Collection from where they will be routed to the Appeal.
Alternatively, if more convenient, donations can be sent directly to the Walsingham Trust at the address given below. The following details appear on the Walsingham Website:-
When
the Parish Church of the Annunciation was built fifty years ago
in Walsingham it was intended to be a temporary building.
It is now no longer adequate for the needs
of the Parish community and for the increasing demands of residential
and day pilgrims to the National Shrine of Our Lady.
Plans are well ahead for building a new Parish church, which will be appropriate for the various kinds of liturgy which will be celebrated there. Architecturally it will have "noble simplicity" and will blend in well with the Norfolk surroundings.
The Parish has a congregation of about 100, for which a simple church would be adequate, but the needs of pilgrims demand a larger building more appropriate for the large groups of pilgrims who use it regularly.
Apart from Parish Services the Church of the Annunciation is used by resident groups of pilgrims for Morning and Evening Prayer and Pilgrim Services almost every day. It is also used for Mass by groups who are not able to attend the 12 noon Mass at the Chapel of Reconciliation and occasionally for the recitation of the Rosary. The Church is also used by day groups at the start or end of their processions.
The new Parish Church will cost in the region of £800,000, which is obviously beyond the reach of a small parish so an Appeal Fund has been set up.
You can help by sending a donation, making an interest free loan or by agreeing to sponsor one of the architectural features of the Church. If you are making a donation and you pay tax at the normal rate it helps enormously if you sign a Gift Aid form. (Examples of features which can be sponsored are: stained glass, the altar, the tabernacle and the font, etc.)
The
Appeal is a registered Charity: Walsingham Trust, Charity No.
265755.
All donations should be made payable to the
Walsingham Trust, and sent to the
Appeal Director, Pilgrim Bureau, Friday Market Place, Walsingham, Norfolk. NR22 6DB.
